Beware the Ides of March, the 15th, 44 BC

[Wrote this poem for a Writers Group]

No one wants it, no one wishes it

Then why does it happen?

Why some people do it, and

O why does it happen so often!

Some say, “ Watch your back”,

Some say, “Settle your debt”.

Well, let’s try to be careful and

Not get caught in a treacherous net.

Yes, you got it by now

It is the ‘beware the ides of March’ Day

When on the lower steps of the portico

Dying Caesar said, “Et tu Brute?”

Treachery, animals are not known

For it. We, the humans, do it

So easily without a thought and care.

And, Lo! We call ourselves the best.
